NETINVET is a European network as a legal entity under the French law of training centers and companies, where mutual trust has been established in order to provide young people with mobility opportunities during their training pathway. It pertains to training programs in the field of international trade, but it is inclined to extend to other training courses within the trade and services sector. The network’s coverage today extends to 11 countries: Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, and Spain. For each of these countries, competent authorities (Ministries, National Agencies, professional/trade organizations) have been associated to encourage and support the network set-up. The network is composed of some forty training centers (number in growth) and over 150 related companies.

The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) is an independent, non-profit and non-political student exchange organization. It provides students in technical degrees with paid, course-related training abroad and employers with highly skilled, highly motivated international trainees. With more than 80 member countries and over 4,000 traineeships exchanged each year, it is the largest organization of its kind in the world.

1) Method of Investigation

The method that was used for the survey was “Self-evaluation through completion of questionnaires”. The survey was conducted electronically (i.e. by e-mail). 28 countries were included in the survey. E-mails were sent out in January and February 2007 to all participants whose e-mail addresses were available, advising them about the survey in their own language and asking them to reply to the questionnaires (also translated into their own language) on-line. The response rate to the survey was highly satisfactory overall, with approximately 36% of correspondents completing the questionnaire.  (more…)

In the course of this survey:

  • 26,840 European citizens aged 15 and above were interviewed about VET by the TNS Opinion & Social network between the 4th and the 19th June 2011 in all 27 European Union Member States

  • The sample was comprised from residents in each of the Member States and is a multi-stage, random (probability) one. In each country, a number of sampling points was drawn with probability proportional to population size (for a total coverage of the country) and to population density.

Between the 13th of November and the 9th of December 2009, TNS Opinion & Social, a consortium created between TNS plc and TNS opinion, carried out wave 72.5 of the EUROBAROMETER, on request of the EUROPEAN COMMISSION, Directorate-General for Communication, “Research and Speechwriting”. The SPECIAL EUROBAROMETER N°337 is part of wave 72.5 and covers the population of the respective nationalities of the European Union Member States, resident in each of the Member States and aged 15 years and over. This document does not deal with a specific survey and its parameters (Method of investigation, Objectives, Findings, and Conclusions-Recommendations). It is a framework which is comprised by a list of definitions of key competences (and the essential knowledge, skills and attitudes related to them) that are related to Lifelong Learning Program. The Framework identifies and defines, for the first time at the European level, the key competences that citizens require for their personal fulfillment, social inclusion, active citizenship and employability in our knowledge-based society. The Member States’ initial education and training systems should support the development of these competences for all young people, and their adult education and training provision should give real opportunities to all adults to learn and maintain these skills and competences.

The methodology of the study was developed during the initial stage and further developed throughout the study, with guidance from the Steering Committee. Although the explorative nature of the study does not translate itself into ‘fixed’ stages, the general outline of the study can be described in seven stages with a number of activities in each stage:
